Ducks

I made a to do list on Saturday.  Not Saturday like two days ago.  Saturday like a week and two days ago.  If I actually finish writing this and get it posted I will finish my list.  All except get Carter's hair cut.  Whatever.  He's bringing sexy mullets back.  It was supposed to be a to do list for the day, not the next 10.  Whoops.

Which brings me to New Year's Resolutions.  I didn't make one.  Instead I invented "Operation Ducks in a Row."  Oh wait, I decided to rename it to "Straighten the Ducks."  Getting them all in a row seemed a bit ambitious.  I'm going to aim for less crooked.  Basically it goes down like this....  I want another baby pretty soon.  But my house and my brain and my life look like this.

I don't like it one bit.

Carter keeps asking me adorable things like, "Mama wanna play trains?"  And I say, "Yes in just one minute but first I have to ________."  Only there are so many things I need to do before I can play trains that he's gonna be 45 before I fill in all the blanks.

I'm working at a feverish pace to knock out as many projects as I can in the first part of the year.  Which I figure is the perfect New Year's Resolution because people normally do really well at the first part of the year and then they suck.  And that's my plan.  To do really well at the start and then suck.  And by suck I mean play trains and watch VeggieTales and ride bikes and fingerpaint.

Jennifer! I love this post! You have always been and continue to be one of my favorite heroes of doing life the right way. Straightening ducks is a brilliant concept--thanks for sharing. :)

Good luck with your duck-straightening! I think that's a great way to look at the new year. These days I like coming up with ONE thing to concentrate on/ work on during the year ahead. It works for me - maybe by the time I'm 90 I'll have tackled the important stuff.

I LOVE your blogging :) about you and your kiddos! I must see more Megan, though! Good luck on your resos! I have many, too-- but def in no hurry for a baby! Would be great to pop 'em out fast, eh? But, with Jae's "terrible 2's" <-- that is birth control enough! I love that you have a mess. Is that OK? :) It looks like my joint over here. I clean little by little each day. In fact, Jimmy didn't even notice the little space I had cleaned today. Wow, I'm wordy. See? I've missed you.

If you have more babies, how will we go on long, hot, strenuous hikes over the summer?

@Melissa That means A LOT coming from someone who does a great job living life.

@Lex I love the idea of picking one thing for the year. But in yoga when we are supposed to pick an intention for the hour I usually spend the first half trying to decide. The pressure of picking just one thing for the year seems like it would explode my brain.

@Hapa I think it's okay to have a mess. I don't think I'll ever keep things super neat around here. There is just so much JUNK that I want to get rid of.

@Daniel I'm still planning on hiking.

Hey there, I've missed your great posts! I definitely need to see an updated pic of Megan. But don't stress out about doing it, looks like you have plenty of train playing playdates to catch up on first :) You're amazing!!
